The Cramer Collection
Introduction by Dr. Karen Kramer, Director
Presented by Prof. Dr. Matthias Pabsch
From the very beginning, the home of Gertrud and Hans Cramer was infused with a very special atmosphere. Intensive ties were cultivated with the artists of the Berlin Secession in the house, which had been designed by the renowned architect Hermann Muthesius. The family of the painter Lovis Corinth, for example, were frequent guests. In this context, the Cramers built up an art collection that spanned from Rembrandt to Degas. When the family was forced to emigrate to the USA, they took most of the collection with them. Thanks to the generosity of the Cramer family, part of the collection has been returned to its place of origin. The restored works will be on display for the first time.
